Insanity is this: doing the same thing repeatedly expecting different results.
Religion doesn’t work! Humanism doesn’t work! Anything we have inside of us, our own efforts, our own “good” morals and “good” deeds don’t work! Idolizing people doesn’t work. Having lots of money doesn’t work. Being the key to your own happiness doesn’t work. Being really, really nice doesn’t work. “Doing church” every Sunday doesn’t work. Volunteering at the youth group doesn’t work. Being politically correct doesn’t work. Being judgmental doesn’t work. Tolerance doesn’t work. Running from your fears doesn’t work, and neither does facing your fears out of your own strength. Rules and restrictions don’t work. Being a “good” person doesn’t work. Hiding your shame doesn’t work. Managing your anger doesn’t work. Materialism doesn’t work. Building your own success doesn’t work. Looking cool doesn’t work. Being really smart doesn’t work. Apathy doesn’t work and neither does worrying. Self-righteousness doesn’t work. Government doesn’t work, and neither does anarchy. Merely surviving on a day to day basis doesn’t work. Working hard doesn’t work, and neither does hardly working. Fancy vocabulary and using cool words doesn’t work. Building your self-esteem doesn’t work and neither does self-hatred. Looking out for number one doesn’t work. Maturity doesn’t work, and neither does immaturity. Self-help books don’t work. Over-analyzing doesn’t work. College degrees don’t work. Being the life of the party doesn’t work. Dwelling in the past doesn’t work, just like living in the future doesn’t work.
Salt doesn’t work if it is left to sit in clumps, just like a lamp doesn’t work if it is under a bucket.
He works and He’s already done all the work, so we don’t have to “make it work”.
Psalm 23
”.. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,3He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for His name’s sake.4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, [a]
I will fear no evil,
for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff,
they comfort me.5You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.”He works, and we dwell.
